Irvine, CA – California Intercontinental University Men’s Basketball is adding a new chapter to its origin story , one that begins with a boy watching Jordan tapes with his dad and evolves into a young man ready to take flight in a Falcons jersey. Meet Camden Shaw, the mild-mannered freshman whose game can turn from calm skies to a lightning strike in the blink of an eye.
Camden’s love for basketball took root early, but it truly bloomed the summer before his sophomore year in high school. During a Las Vegas tournament, Camden rediscovered pure basketball joy as his coach allowed the team to play freely like a streetball game in the park. No overthinking. No heavy playbook. Just flow, fun, and fierce competition, and it paid off. He and his teammates strung together win after win, and Camden’s game began to soar.
When asked why he chose CIU, Camden points to the heartbeat of the program:
“The culture Coach Smalley is setting and the energy he brings were huge for me. I hope to bring my intensity, passion, energy, and skill to CIU basketball , and maybe a few highlight plays along the way.”
Head Coach Gamal Smalley sees more than potential in his newest recruit:
“Camden has a tremendous amount of explosiveness inside of him, and our staff has recognized it. It’s our job to bring it out of the true freshman. He’s somewhat mild-mannered like Clark Kent, but in the blink of an eye, he’ll tear the rim down like Super—well, you get the picture. He’s a delightful addition to our program.”
Off the court, Camden’s strength comes from his mother, his lifelong role model whose determination and drive have shaped his own. On the court, he’s ready to channel that inspiration into every rebound, cut, and dunk.
With Camden Shaw in uniform, the Falcons are adding more than a player; they’re adding a story of hidden power, untapped energy, and the promise of game-changing moments. CIU fans, get ready, the cape might be invisible, but the heroics will be impossible to miss.
